Our latest meeting was held on October 27th. Matthew Smith, president of the Old Courthouse Theatre, discussed how our July donation was going towards a new heating and air system for the theatre.
We heard presentations from the following members and charities: Michael Hopkins for Junior Charity League of Concord, Jack Cox for The Coltrane LIFE Center, and Dan Barrier for Esther’s Heart for Transformation Ministry. The Junior Charity League of Concord was chosen to receive this quarter’s donation. JCL has been serving the children of Cabarrus County since 1930. Their projects include the Mariam C. Schramm Clothing Room, which serves economically disadvantaged children, Safety Town for rising kindergarteners, and a student eyeglass program to provide eye exams and glasses for students in need.
Members discussed ways to more effectively receive and tabulate votes. Tim Foley has drafted procedures reflecting strategies considered by those in attendance to be more inclusive. We also discussed ways to increase membership including inviting women to join our group.
We would like to welcome new members Martin Ericson, Glenn Simmons, and Mike Strahl.
It’s not too early to nominate a charity for our next cycle. In addition to the Coltrane LIFE Center and Esther’s Heart for Transformation Ministry, Second Course, which provides training in the culinary arts to people re-entering society, has been nominated. Three charities will be randomly selected from all nominations and members will present on their behalf at the January meeting.
Please put Thursday, January 26th at 7pm on your calendar for our next quarterly meeting. We will change our location to All Saints Episcopal Church on Branchview Drive.
