January’s Meeting

After three wonderful presentations by local charities, members voted to award this quarter’s donation to Lifeline Ministries. Lifeline provides nutritious meals to children and families facing hunger in our community and around the world: students, refugees, families, as well as communities recovering from natural disasters.

We also heard from last quarter’s recipient, Operation Decisive Victory about how our donation has helped veterans and their families get back on their feet.

There is still time to donate via Grapevine. Elaine and Jack would also be happy to pick up a check from you if more convenient.

Member Angela Quillen has offered to host our next meeting at Covenant Classical School on Thursday, April 18 at 7 pm.

Fall Meeting

Our quarterly meeting will be next Thursday, October 19 at 7pm in the Coltrane Room at Central United Methodist Church, 30 Union Street North.

Presentations on behalf of the following groups will take place at our meeting.

  •  Operation Decisive Victory – a nonprofit veteran support organization focused on services which preserve the quality of life of veterans.
  • LIfeline Ministries –  provides nutritious meals to children and families facing hunger in our community and around the world: students, refugees, families, as well as communities recovering from natural disasters.
  • Wish for Wheels  – empowers well-being in kids, families and communities through the gift of a new bike/helmet to 2nd graders in Title I Elementary Schools.

The meeting will start with a review of how our last donation was put to use by The Open Door House, followed by three presentations from members, a discussion, and a vote. We will finish the meeting at 8 PM.

Please join us in person if possible. If unable to attend, email your vote to Tim Foley: tfoley265@gmail.com

Thanks and look forward to seeing you on Thursday.

100 People Who Care

The winter meeting of 2023 of 100PeopleWhoCareConcord will be held on January 26, at All Saints Episcopal Church at 7:00 pm. (The community entrance is on the Country Club Dr. side of the church which is in the rear.) The group is changing their name from100MenWhoCareConcord to reflect the inclusion of women—a very exciting change. Please see Jack Cox for more information.

November update

Our latest meeting was held on October 27th. Matthew Smith, president of the Old Courthouse Theatre, discussed how our July donation was going towards a new heating and air system for the theatre.

We heard presentations from the following members and charities:  Michael Hopkins for Junior Charity League of Concord, Jack Cox for The Coltrane LIFE Center, and  Dan Barrier for Esther’s Heart for Transformation Ministry. The Junior Charity League of Concord was chosen to receive this quarter’s donation. JCL has been serving the children of Cabarrus County since 1930. Their projects include the Mariam C. Schramm Clothing Room, which serves economically disadvantaged children, Safety Town for rising kindergarteners, and a student eyeglass program to provide eye exams and glasses for students in need.

Members  discussed ways to more effectively receive and tabulate votes. Tim Foley has drafted procedures reflecting strategies considered by those in attendance to be more inclusive. We also discussed ways to increase membership including inviting women to join our group.

We would like to welcome new members Martin Ericson, Glenn Simmons, and Mike Strahl.

It’s not too early to nominate a charity for our next cycle. In addition to the Coltrane LIFE Center and Esther’s Heart for Transformation Ministry,  Second Course, which provides training in the culinary arts to people re-entering society, has been nominated. Three charities will be randomly selected from all nominations and members will  present on their behalf at the January meeting.

Please put Thursday, January 26th at 7pm on your calendar for our next quarterly meeting. We will change our location to All Saints Episcopal Church on Branchview Drive.

How are donations collected?

100 Men Who Care does not process your gift. We partner with a larger organization to reduce cost and delivery of the donation. The funds are managed by a national organization which is recognized as a nonprofit, 501C3 DAF, and distributes funds for a minor fee to cover any credit card or ACH cost.
